We recently conducted a series of internal Google workshops with the Administrators and Leadership Team of the Trumann School District. While we were there, they received a huge shipment of the Acer Spin 11 Chromebooks that are going to be the 1:1 device for their students.
Trumann School District is launching a ‘reboot’ with Google this summer, bringing in the new Acer Spin Chromebooks as well as the Google Educator Certification for all Administrator / Leadership and teachers at every school using AppsEvents L1/L2 combined curriculum.
We grabbed the opportunity to learn more about why they are switching to Chromebooks and we will be sharing the details with you in this two-part blog post.

Trumann 1:1 Acer Chromebook & Google PD Initiative

For several years, Trumann School District has made technology inclusion in the educational environment a top priority. Being a high-poverty district, with nearly 80% of students being served free/reduced lunches each day, Trumann began in 2011 with a 1:1 initiative for grades K-12 using Apple products (iPads and Macbooks). Students in grades 5-12 were allowed to take the devices home at night to ensure equity in learning (homework, projects, etc.)
With a renewed focus for the 2018-2019 school year, Trumann School District has collaboratively decided to refresh all technology with Acer Spin Chromebooks for students, purchase and implement Go Guardian on all devices, and commit to training all teachers and leaders with high quality Google training.

New focus for school 2018-2019
- Tightening internet safety for students.
- Increasing and improving effective instructional practices used by teachers.
- Use Google effectively in classrooms and in instructional leadership.
- Propelling academic achievement.
Expected Outcomes/Benefits:
- Go Guardian will help teachers and administrators safeguard students from inappropriate use of devices and help focus students on the planned standards-based instruction.
- Touch Screen/Flip Screen Acer Spin Chromebooks will allow K-12 students to experience their technology in a “laptop” and a “tablet” approach, allowing for choice and full engagement in learning. Students in grades 5-12 will continue to be allowed to take the devices home at night to work on homework/projects. Students in grades 5-12 will continue to be informed of affordable local internet options, all with the desire to produce equitable learning for all students.
- In the 2018-2019 school year, teachers will achieve Google Level 1 certification. Administrators will achieve Google Level 2 certification. Increased confidence and improved efficiency will be the result of attaining certifications.
- Students will become proficient users of G-Suite and find a renewed educational experience that excites them and encourages them to be not only efficient in their work, but innovative in their thinking.
- All members of the Trumann School District staff, students, parents, community, and various stakeholders will make a commitment to supporting each other in the transition to allow for maximum benefits to be achieved.

Trumann School District is located in Trumann, Arkansas and serves around 1600 students in Northeast Arkansas. Located in Poinsett County, Trumann is about 15 miles away from Jonesboro, Arkansas and about a 45 minute drive from Memphis, Tennessee.
